What a color separation generator does

Screen printing lays down one ink per screen, so every design has to be split (separated) into one grayscale plate per ink. A generator does that split automatically: it finds the distinct colors in the art, folds near-duplicate shades together, drops the garment color, and assigns every pixel to the ink that should print it.

This one decides the ink count by how much of the art each ink actually owns, so JPEG noise doesn't invent extra screens and small real colors aren't thrown away.

Spot color vs. simulated process

Spot color suits logos, type and flat illustration: each ink prints solid where it belongs. Simulated process suits photos and painterly art: a limited set of inks is halftoned to fake the full range. The free preview tells you which one your design needs.

Tips for a cleaner separation

Upload the largest original you have. Screenshots and social-media copies are heavily compressed.
Pick the garment color first: on dark shirts you'll need a white underbase screen.
If the count looks high, try forcing a lower ink count; many designs print well in 3–4 inks.

Is the color separation generator free?

How many colors can it separate?

Automatic mode keeps up to 6 spot inks plus underbase; you can force a specific count. Photographic art is better served by simulated process in the desktop app.

Does it work for light and dark shirts?

Yes. Choose the garment color and the preview drops the shirt color from the ink list and adds a white underbase for dark garments.
